'The Lady Moon' came bustling by...

{Last Rose of Summer?}

Good morning Dear Reader,

I'd like to report that last night, "The Lady Moon" came bustling by, with raucous winds in her wake. Seeming to be intent on doing some Fall House Cleaning, before her "Full Harvest Moon" of tonight. :-) In the wake of her voluminous 'skirts,' the winds swept away the rain and the humidity and the gray skies. Leaving blue skies this morning, with white clouds zipping by, to the East. To greet the Sun as he rose.

I expected there would be clear skies tonight, for the Full Harvest Moon. This happens so often... clouds give way to the Full Moon... That I've come to expect it.

I'm particularly happy that today is a lovely Autumn day. Since this afternoon, I have to have a tooth filled and my remaining Wisdom Tooth, pulled.

See? Says so, right at the bottom of the first page of the article.

Isn't that wonderful? I'd ask, Isn't that amazing? But, it would be silly to ask if it's amazing. Anyone who has been reading her blog {Tongue in Cheek}, knows her beautiful photography and her beautiful way with words. So her ability to pull off a whole article, isn't really a surprise.

But it's still pretty special for me. Because I never read a magazine, where I can say that I know the author. Sure, it's Net-know her. But when we read a person's blog for a long time, and email with the person, I think we can pretty well say that we 'know' them. :-)

Lookie! Two red tomatoes! Well, nearly red. :-) If we're lucky and the sun burns through the clouds today, bet we will have two red tomatoes by dinner time!

The three plants are heavy with green tomatoes. He has to keep tying them up to supports, as you can see in the picture. And I was thinking we were going to have to settle for trying 'Fried Green Tomatoes.' In fact, I was really looking forward to trying 'Fried Green Tomatoes.' Never had them. {Are 'Fried Green Tomatoes' a Southern dish?}

Actually, there are so many tomatoes, that I doubt all will ripen before they have to be picked. So I think we can still have some 'Fried Green Tomatoes,' this year.

Tonight is the Full Sturgeon Moon. So called because some Native American tribes knew that the sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain were most readily caught during this full moon. Others called it the Green Corn Moon or the Grain Moon.

If you really hurry and book a flight, you could attend the Full Moon Festival in Athens tonight. Every August, on the eve of the full moon, several archeological sites in Greece stay open late for a full moon festival. You could have the opportunity to visit the Acropolis and the Parthenon under the light of the moon, while being serenaded by various classical musicians and opera singers.

Or, you could just pour a glass of wine {or whatever your beverage of choice is} and sit in a comfy chair and watch/wait for the rising of the Full Moon, over your own back yard. I think this last, will be my choice tonight. :-)

Native American symbolic full moon names were established by eastern and northern tribes, such as the Algonquin and the Iroquois Confederacy. These remarkable people assigned attributes to each of the full moons according to the seasonal characteristics.

The Full Moon of July was the Thunder Moon. Since this month is notorious for big booms of thunder and storms.

And look, more of the blue Hydrangea out in the front perennial garden. I just can't get enough of it.

Especially since its blooms are soooo big.

Someone wondered what Hydrangeas *like*... E. says acid. He uses Miracid. It really makes them happpppy.

But... Sadness... Look what happened to the first tomato! On the bottom! Eeeek!


E. calls it "Blossom End Rot" or some such. Tomato is now gone. We keep an eye on the other 2 on another plant. And the smaller of the three plants ~ an Heirloom Tomato of some sort, now has blossoms! Hope springs eternal. :-)

Plus, something is eating at my Impatient! Grrrr... Guess it's "survival of the fittest." "Dog eat dog." "Bug eat pretty flowers and tasty tomatoes." And leaves too!

Someone asked another question... How to post pics 'small,' but have them be click-able and show in a bigger size? ~~~*~~~ When I download my pics into my iPhoto thing, I make my pics, sized as 800 on the largest 'side.' Sorry, but that's the best I can tell you, since I'm not techy. But thus, they can show as big as a screen, on my computer. ~~~*~~~ And I figure, they do the same, on other computers. Maybe a tiny bit bigger, at times, but that's just the top or bottom edge. I hope. ~~~*~~~ Then when I go to add pics to my post {by clicking on the little blue box, at the top of the Blogger-being-composed-post}, I see 3 sizes from which to choose. If I want my pics to be b-i-g, like I used to, I click on the Large box. Now I click on the Small box. ~~~*~~~ For the "click on pic & it enlarges," bet there is some setting you have to have correctly done, but I looked in Settings and I can't find it. :-( Someone else who knows this stuff, please HELP! :-)

I also want to thank all who leave comments here. At any time. At every time. At random times. Or consistently. Thank you for them all. I appreciate all of them. I am still struggling with the issue of not being able to return each and every comment. I do try a lot. But I also know, I fall down on the total job of comment returns. And... Like I've said a *zillion* times, I struggle with this.

I so want to not struggle with it. I so want this. Because it takes away some of the fun of blogging. And fun is the name of the game, for my kind of blogging. I'm not selling anything and I'm not doing any kind of an instructional blog, where people consistently come, to find IDEAS or the like. So... fun is the name of the game. And for me to dampen my fun, is pretty silly. :-(

We only 'go this way once,' and I'm older and should really be paying attention to only doing what I really want and enjoy and what makes me feel good. {After small duties, of course. Even now, I'm not without some duties.} But basically, humans are wired to seek pleasure and avoid pain. I've had both, in my life. And "now is later." So, if not now, when?<--That's my mantra! :-) But moaning and groaning about how I blog, is not following my mantra. Grrrr me... *~~~*~~~*

We had a quick and simple Supper, last night... Farmer's Market beets and lettuce. Deviled Eggs. And a quick salad, made of cut-up left-over chicken... And a simple white wine...

The above is from the intro to this precious book, which I got from Amazon New and Used Books. I read about it in one of the {click-->} photo blogs I follow... A lady of the South, who said she got out her old and well worn copy, to read something... {Link above} And it made me want to read the book, as well. {And this Photo Blog has simply beautiful photos, as well...}

If summer time feels like time to tell tales and talk family to you too, please see if you can find this book. Mine is a new re-issue, with a different cover pic, than the original. But I love the picture of the author. She looks like someone I would just love to know. And I'd love to be able to sit down with her and hear her tell stories, in real life. :-) She would certainly be lovingly called 'Miss Kathryn.'

Rotary International... "Service above self" My husband loves belonging to his local chapter and has been in it for a longggg time. His club is gathering memorabilia, and he had some things to bring to the meeting yesterday. I took a picture of this old newspaper clipping, before he took it. ************
It's a picture from the 1984 Rotary Installation Dinner, when my husband was installed as local Rotary President for a year. He is second from the left. Of the six shown, only my husband and the man on the far right, are still with us. I was struck by this, when we looked at the photo. And thought it was worth keeping a picture of. :-)

The Full June Strawberry Moon had burned away the clouds, and was shining gloriously, last night. But I fell asleep on the couch and when I woke up, I could only go outside and get this photo, sort of through the huge tree to the south. And it's not that good. But I will be visiting other gals today, and I bet they got great shots of the Full Moon! :-)

And oh yes, it was glorious from our bedroom window, when I went upstairs! But I'd have had to have both the window up and the screen up too, to take a picture. And go back down stairs to get the camera. {Some sweet person asked what camera it is... It's a Canon Zoom Lens 10XIS. And I have NOT mastered it yet! Not, not, not. I just shoot. And try using the zoom. And there are so many more instructions in the book...which I have never had the 'guts' to try. Yet!}

So all I did was gaze it it, almost mesmerized. Such glorious beauty! I was struck with the thought that ~ Even in today's modern world, where we know what the moon is, and have walked on its surface, and have so much ambient lighting around, which cuts our true view of the night skies ~ Even with all this, the Full Moon still has the power to amaze us, with its glorious beauty. Is it any wonder that the ancient peoples were in awe of it?

They who could see the moon and the stars through a crystal clear atmosphere, not yet clouded by modern pollution... And not surrounded by lights of a city... They who could gaze on the night sky, in its full and awe inspiring beauty... Is it any wonder that they felt awe and power and amazement? And that they felt insignificant, under it all? And that they revered the Celestial Bodies, as Gods?

And feeling so tiny and largely helpless, on this not-so-friendly-at-times Earth... Is it any wonder that they began to feel that these Celestial Bodies, which maybe were Gods, could be of help to them?

Humans seem to never outgrow the need for 'mothering,' in order to feel safe and secure. They try to "grow up." They really try to. But when things get tough, they want to again be "taken care of," somehow. Humans seem to cling to the need to have Help From On High, to make them feel safe and secure. Many humans will not dare face the Universe, on its own terms. Simply accepting it, as is. And not needing answers and reasons and total knowledge of everything. Even of "Life" and of "Death."

So I fully understand how the ancients, looked to the sky, for protection and security and care and sureness. Last night, mesmerized by the beauty of the Full Moon, I could almost feel, what they must have felt. And fully understand their need, to have felt it.

'Tis time!!! 'Tis time!!! Again...!

It's that time again... We are again coming up on the Full Moon... The May Full Moon is called the Full Flower Moon, according to the Farmers' Almanac. "In most areas, flowers are abundant everywhere during this time. Thus the name of this Moon." :-)

One never knows for sure, if the Full Moon Weather Effect will work, on the night of the true fullness. {What I refer to is, the way that on the night of the Full Moon, the sky is often clear. Does the Full Moon have some effect on the barometric pressure? I've even asked a Net friend, who is 'very-into' all about the sky. And he said there isn't any real scientific evidence for this Full-Moon-Clear-Sky thing. But that it's one of those often seen things. So, I guess one could call it, a Folk Lore thing. And Folk Lore is based on many generations of noticing the same natural effect happening.}

Anyway ~ 'tis time for the Great Moon Photo Quest again! Trying to capture the Moon, without an expensive camera and without special expensive zoom lens! Sorry, but only we who are camera equipment *challenged* are *allowed* to enter this particular Quest. >,-)))

And never knowing what Tuesday night's weather will be, I jumped at the chance last night, to try, on the pre-Full Moon. And here are my humble attempts. Please note lots of cropping. And some tries at "Artsy-Fartsy." All are allowed to giggle behind their hands, at their own keyboards. But since we who enter the Great Moon Photo Quest are fragile as to critique, we ask you please to not giggle, in comments. >,-)))

One shot, caught both the Moon above, and a street light below. Instead of cropping this one, I left it. For sort of {remember, please no giggles in comments... -grin-} a "Light on high, and on low" effect. -shakes head- I know, I'm stretching here, with a caption. But... -chuckle- I got carried away with "artsy-fartsy." So ~ bite me! ,-)

Might as well 'hit you' with another cropping for "artsy-fartsy"... The Moon is cropped out, an only cloud effect left. Which I would call "Moon And Mountains." {remember the *ban* on giggles} ,-)
