Mineral water pours from this spring. It coats the basin and turns it different colors. {Which I think are very beautiful, but...} Perhaps the basin doesn't "think so." Perhaps the basin "wishes" it would stay its original color. If the basin "takes it personally," that the mineral water is changing the basin's color, the basin might get quite *upset.* The basin might grow *angry* at the water, and *hollar* at the water, to stop depositing minerals on the basin and leave it, its original color.
And how much good would that do?
It's the nature of mineral water, to leave deposits of minerals, where it flows. It's the nature of the basin of a spring, to catch the flowing water, and then let it flow over the sides of the basin. Both together, making beauty. The basin should not take it personally, that the flowing spring water is leaving deposits of minerals, on its surface. Each is being true to its own nature. Each is fulfilling its personal destiny. Neither should take any of it, personally.
We are advised to 'not take it personally,' when someone criticizes us. Because it's not about us. It's about the person giving the criticism. We each direct and star in our own little life drama. There are supporting players, in our drama. Each with their own opinions. When one of them criticizes us, it's not about us. It's about them, and a reflection of their own story/drama.
So, don't take it personally. Ouch! Not easy to do, hu? A hard pill to swallow... I wonder if anyone actually masters this? Fully makes it part of themselves, so they are never again ruffled by anyone else's opinion? Mmmm... I hope someone does. It gives me hope, on my long journey to master this admonition...
And then there's the 'why of criticizing'... A whole other bag of worms. It's not about you. It's about them and their feeling of importance and their fear and etc., etc., etc., etc.
Too much for one day, me thinks. -grin- There are plenty of Net sites on this whole topic, if you want more. :-) Me, I've had enough for the day. I have a lot of work to do. Just getting 'don't take it personally' firmly planted in my head!
:-)
