Calling all Carousel Lovers....

Last evening was the Sunday evening Band Concert in the Park, which are given during July. It was a perfect Summer evening, without mosquitoes even. First I will show you our restored Carousel. I'm sure there are Carousel Lovers reading here.
And I know that Mrs. Staggs is one. :-))))

.It was originally at a long-time public beach and recreation area, out by the lake.
.The horses were carved in what is known as 'The Ilions Style.' A man by the name of Ilions, was a carver. He formed a company to hand-carve many carousel horses. Naturally, they are now very collectible and we are lucky to have this lovely piece of 'Early Americana,' right in our downtown park.
.But also naturally, none of this happened easily. The City purchased the carousel, when the lake recreation area was sold and converted to condominiums. But, the horses had to be restored. All this was paid for by public donations and donation of time/effort by carvers and volunteers. Some had to be sent elsewhere for particular work. But eventually, all was ready to put in place.

.Hehhhh.... Then came years and years and years of wrangling over where to put it. Yes folks, we had this gem. And people could not agree on where to place it. Each and every place which was proposed, was met by some citizens who were aghast at each. Grrrr... Finally, common sense prevailed and it was placed in our downtown city park. Where it continues to be run by volunteers.
.
Doesn't it look like fun? There are even pretty little benches on it, for the less adventuresome, among us. But I'm proud to claim that I did hoist myself up onto a horse, for my first ride on the newly restored and placed Carousel!!!
